TiVo + evolution = TiVolution?

Gizmodo has an interesting article on the evolution of the TiVo remote from basic prototype to its various forms over the years.

“There were a lot of jokes about the shape. Not just the obvious ones,” said Newby. “I can remember some referencing to an earlobe, or the shape of the lower back/butt area.”
I think part [...]

R2-D2 Cake

Making the Most Amazing R2-D2 Cake Ever - B-Side Blog
Completely edible (minus a dowel or two). Fondant covered red velvet cake, rice krispie legs.
Though as a true Star Wars geek, I have to point out that it’s not R2-D2. It’s an R2 class droid for sure, based on markings and design, and it’s similar to [...]

When Maury was speaking closely to this young woman with an interesting phobia, Kristen remarked, “That’d be cool if he was talking to her with pickle breath.”

Just a few days ago, HandBrake 0.9.2 was released with a slew of tweaks and new features. The one that was significant to me was EyeTV support. I haven’t had much time to play with it, but I can report that I successfully converted an HD broadcast captured with my EyeTV Hybrid with EyeTV 3.0.

The [...]

Twittering my ass off

As Cat said, I tend to “twitter my ass off,” and the reliable twitter tools plugin posts a digets here every evening. However, I have decided that as great as the twitter tools plugin is, I don’t like the amount of spam it puts on to my blog. It also reminds me of how infrequently [...]

Looking forward to this storm

I’m not sure why, but I’m looking forward to this storm we’re supposed to get later this week. Maybe it’s because I have lots of projects to do in the house and nothing going on outside the house, so I won’t feel like I’m missing something. Perhaps it’s because we got a new TV (thanks, [...]

Mister Splashy Pants

Everyone’s favorite eco-terrorists, Greenpeace, is having an online poll as to what to name their newest humpback whale. The choices are the usual Greenpeace fare, including Bumi, Paz, Shanti, etc. One exception is “Mister Splashy Pants,” which is “too funny to leave out.” I suppose it’s funny if you’re a 12 year old Pokemon fan. [...]

Star Trek: Country Music Edition

I just noticed this CMA - Country Music Awards ad on the iTunes Store.

It looks strikingly similar to the Star Trek insignia, specifically the barred background one from Future Imperfect.

I wonder if the designers even considered that it looks a lot like the Trek logo that’s been around since the late 1960s. It’s all over [...]

RSTLNE

There’s something hot about how Vanna White says she uses Helvetica.

EDIT: I didn’t think about it until now, but since she uses Geneva, she probably uses a Mac too.

The circle is complete

Up to this point my life was incomplete. Amongst my basic needs are the need to cook proteins for consumption (i.e. grilling), and to listen to my iPod. Previously, these two necessary activities had a firm line dividing them.
Enter the George Foreman iGrill.
With a 200 square inch cooktop and 10 watt speaker system and iPod [...]
